Today, I am talking about the most picturesque, instagram-able hotel I have ever stayed at: The Royal Hawaiian, a SPG Luxury Collection Hotel. Even better than looks: A top notch experience.
As I’ve mentioned, a million plus times, my husband and I always look for a SPG properties while traveling. One of the things I really appreciate about SPG websites is they link their Instagram handles. Not only can you see the “very staged, professional” photos of the hotel, you are able to see it “as a guest.” So when looking at the various Honolulu properties, the pink & white decor kept popping up. Decision made.
The Royal Hawaiian, or known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” was one of the first hotels in Hawaii. Over it’s 90 years in business, it has been the go-to luxury resort in Hawaii and a resort for US Military. I love the old school glamour of this hotel and the small touches they offer. From fresh leis at the door, a bottle of pink champagne at checkin or fresh banana break in the rooms, they do not overlook any detail.
Our room at the Royal Hawaiian was ridiculously huge. We were upgraded to a Garden Suite in the main building. I think the room was twice the size of our apartment in Chicago. We had a bar area, living room, eating area, massive bedroom and a “powder room” area. More than enough room for a 24 hour stay for two people! The decor was a little outdated for me, but the amenities were brand new. I also was obsessed with their toiletries. I may or may not have taken them all for future trips 🙂
A few other things I want to note: Although the hotel pool is very small, the location is great and you are steps from the ocean, so really there is not much need for it. I would recommend having breakfast in the restaurant on the beach. That was our first stop in Honolulu. The food was good and a great wait to start the day!
Finally, there is a “luxury” wing to the hotel, the Mailani Tower. If you stay in this wing (or have Platinium status), you are privy to a few perks. The have a special lounge that serves complimentary breakfast in the morning and a happy hour in the evening. Full-time concierges are on site at all time. We really were impressed with the lounge — definitely more robust than most!
