You’ve probably caught on already, but I love to travel. I caught the travel bug around age 12 when we took a family vacation that covered most of the Caribbean. That was the first time I remembered being on an airplane, and from that moment, I was hooked.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to plan numerous trips for myself and my family. I like to think I am somewhat of a pro when it comes to travel sites, so I have compiled of list of my favorites. Enjoy!
Rentals: I prefer to rent an apartment while traveling abroad (minus staying at St. Regis here or there). Renting allows you to cook with food bought at the markets and gives you room to spread out at the end of the day. Plus, rentals are usually located “in less touristy areas” usually meaning, more authentic. Airbnb and HomeAway are my two favorites sites to use. We used HomeAway to book our apartment for our upcoming trip to Rome.
Airfare: Searching airfare is actually a hobby of mine. I can tell you right now that round trip tickets to Canada are less the $200 and direct flights to Sweden, $600. I’m always looking for my next big adventure! When it comes to flights, Momondo is my go to. It’s a great search engine that combines all travel sites together. I am also a big advocate of booking tickets direct from the airlines, in which case, United is our go to.
Excursions/Restaurants: I like to book at least one-two excursions and restaurants before leaving, then book the rest once we arrive. When it comes to researching, I always always trust TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor is much more predominant abroad. I even use TripAdvisor to look up recent reviews for hotels we are staying at. Be sure to leave reviews on TripAdvisor for anything you book!
If we are traveling within the US, I almost always turn to Yelp. Great reviews, information, and pictures of the restaurants are always included.
Travel Inspiration: Last, but not least, you always need a bucket list. These websites will make you want to pack a bag tomorrow: Conde Nast Traveler and Trover. Conde Nast has amazing editorials and such a beautiful website. I am guilty of spending an entire evening just on the homepage! Trover is the child of a Instagram and TripAdvisor combined. Travelers post pictures of their destinations while attaching a short review. I could spend hours scrolling through 🙂
