Exciting news: We are taking a week long trip to Rome, Italy with my ENTIRE family in April. It will be like our own Lizzie McGuire movie minus Paolo… and Lizzie.. and Gordo. This is what dreams are made of…eh, eh.
This will be my third trip to Italy (craziness), but I am super excited to show my family one of my favorite places in the world. I am going to hold off on sharing what is on our upcoming itinerary, but here are my 5 Tips for Italy:
1. Wild Boar Sauce. If it’s on the menu, order it. I am so serious.
2. Become a connoisseur of Gelato. Just please, never say no.
3. Bottle of Wine <in purse> You will most definitely find me with a bottle of wine on hand when wandering at night. You never know when you’ll stumble across a sight worth enjoying a glass of wine over. True life: My husband and I stumbled upon a live opera in the middle of Florence.
4. Learn a little Italian. It goes a long way. A simple “hello”, “good morning” or “thank you” might make all the difference. Or get you a free glass of grappa.
5. Put the Map Away (or phone) and Explore. As much as you want to cram a million things in, sometimes the best things are found while wandering. And views are best seen without a map or phone in front of your face.
It’s by no mistake that 3 of my 5 tips involve food/drinks. After writing this post, I might post up, crack a bottle of wine, and enjoy a bowl of fresh pasta from Eataly.
Have you been to Italy? Rome? If so, what has been your favorite thing to do?

Get tickets to the audience with the Pope on Wednesday mornings! Even if you aren’t Catholic, a few words of wisdom from a world leader is an incredible experience- one you won’t want to miss if you’re so close to Vatican City.
