I’ve in no way become a pro at long haul flights. I still struggle to sleep on a plane. However, I have found a few tips that make those 8+ hour flights a little smoother and arriving at the destination a little more enjoyable.
Aisle Seat/Bulk Head Seat
Location, location, location. I prefer aisle seats when flying for more than 6 hours. The longer the flight, the less going on in the aisle, meaning more leg room for me #noshame. We have also started booking the bulkhead seats on our longer flights. With our carryons overhead, the legroom is insane. Plus, you are served first for food and drinks. Can we say win-win?
No Makeup
If you have been on a 8+ hour flight, you know how your skin starts to feel mid-flight. YUCK. I know we all want to leave the plane “camera ready,” but let’s be honest, it’s not going to happen. I always bring makeup removing wipes and usually re-apply makeup as soon as we land.
Check the Entertainment
I made the mistake of assuming that a plane would have in flight entertainment. This particular flight happened to be a 16 hour flight to Tokyo. NEVER AGAIN. Even though a plane might not be equipped with TVs, they usually still offer movies through their app. Make sure all technology is fully charged and you have the airline app downloaded!
Pack Your Own Food
I am 100 percent the girl with her own bag of food. Nothing about plane food excites me, and honestly, I don’t like the idea of eating a full meal on a plane. I usually snag a fresh salad in the airport to eat during the served meal, then have sh*tloads of snacks for the rest of the flight. Some of favorites? Crackers and hummus, swedish fish, and my dad’s homemade spicy pretzels 🙂
All about the Toiletries
Pack a “overnight bag” for the flight. I carry a small makeup bag filled with a travel toothbrush, floss, mouthwash, facial towelettes, Evian misting spray, lotion, etc. Essentially anything that is going to make me feel fresh after multiple hours. I keep it in the outside of my carry on — easy access for every trip to the bathroom.
Water, Water, and More Water
Bring your own water bottle. I recently started following this tip and I find myself drinking double what I use to on flights.
Move Around the Cabin
The biggest mistake I see people making is sitting in their seat the entire flight. Don’t do it! It is terrible for your body and you’ll get stir crazy. I always take a lap around the plane to waste time (and try to snag extra snacks from the flight attendants). I’ve even seen people doing yoga on long haul flights in Asia.

I completely agree about the “no makeup” tip! I’ve never thought about bringing face wipes but that seems like a good idea! Thanks for that.
Also, since it’s hard for me to sleep on these long flights I don’t want to be disturbed if I do fall asleep which is why I prefer window seat. There’s some extra space between your seat and the wall so you can fell somewhat roomy. I also use the wall to lean on when I sleep rather than risking having my and a passenger’s face be too close or getting hit by passerbyers in the aisle. Lol

Haha, I have definitely had the latter happen to me! For years I went back and forth on window and aisle, but I’ve given up on “sleeping” on flights, instead consider it a time to catch up on the latest movie releases.
Also, I found these lemon face towelettes at Ulta, and they are a game changer! I use one at the beginning and the end of the flight, makes my skin feel a little more rejuvenated ? Thanks for the read!
