Prepare yourself for the most adorable elephant pictures you have EVER seen!
Elephant Nature Park was hands down one of my favorite parts of our honeymoon. It is located 60km outside of Chiang Mai, which is situated in the northern mountainous region of Thailand. Elephant Nature Park (ENP) was started in the early 90’s as a elephant sanctuary and rescue center. Talk about some seriously happy elephants!
To reach the park, you have to travel 45 minutes through the rainforest and mountains until you reach the most incredible valley. Upon arriving, you spend the day meeting all the elephants, feeding them and bathing them. You cannot ride elephants at ENP. Riding elephants is extremely harmful (and damages their spinal cord), so PLEASE PLEASE research elephants parks before visiting.
Hands down my favorite part was bathing the elephants in the river. It’s an amazing feeling to be standing next to such a large animal. This will definitely be one of those experiences I’ll never forget! Once the elephants were cleaned, we lead them to a mud pile where the rolled around and covered themselves to protect their skin from the sun. SPF for elephants. Genius.
Note: Most of the elephants pictured in this post are between 60-75 years old! They have been rescued from abusive relationships such as logging or landmine searching. Please research any type of animal park to be sure your money is being spent in the appropriate way!
