With a unexpected trip this last weekend and less than 24 hours to book my flight, I found myself scurrying to find a flight that wouldn’t break the bank. I turned to my trusty travel apps and found myself an early morning flight for $67 dollars (on United — still not sure how I managed) and was on my way.
En route to the airport, I found myself using an app to check the security line, find the closest Starbucks to my gate, and download entertainment for the flight. We all know the original travel apps: TripAdvisor, HotelTonight, Google Maps, Uber, etc.
I’ve combined a list of some of my new favorite travel apps for 2017:
In the Airport
Wondering what seat provides the most leg room? SeatGuru rates each seat on the plane to give you an idea if that “upgrade” is really worth it.
Want the perk of skipping the endless Customs line? Download Mobile Passport, fill out your profile, and you’ll find yourself in an express line in over 20 airports.
Do you have an uncomfortably long layover? LoungeBuddy provides you with information on the closest lounges in the airport and allows you to purchase entrance on your phone.
Is there a Starbucks by your gate? GateGuru will let you know.
For the Airplane
Is there a baby crying next to you? White Noise will help cancel out the sounds or allow you to feel more calm on a turbulent flight.
Coming home from vacation? Filter and edit your photos without internet on VSCO.
Did you just start watching Stranger Things? With the new Netflix (Download) update, you can watch all of your favorites at 32k feet.
During your Trip
Need to ask a question while traveling abroad? Type/Say the words and Google Translate will translate them into the appropriate language.
Worried about missing a famous landmark? Keep FieldTripper on in the back of your phone and it will notify you when you are passing/near a landmark.
Love Art Museums but didn’t study art? Magnus is your pocket art guide. Take a picture and the app will provide you with more information about the work.
Love creeping private jets as much as me? JetSmarter is the fastest growing private charter app.
Need a quick pit stop? SitOrSquat will share the closest free bathrooms and even provide reviews!
