Hope everyone is enjoying some warmer weather this week! It’s crazy how much my husband and I have crammed into the last two weeks. Moving, Europe, my parents visiting, a Cubs game… all within three weeks. No wonder we bought 10 bottles of wine in Italy!
When we first arrived in Rome, rather than allowing ourselves to succumb to jet lag, we jetted off to a nearby vineyard for a private wine tasting and a Roman lunch. Casale Marchese was one of the coziest vineyards I have ever been to.
Once we got a short tour of the property, we were brought inside to learn more about the family history and taste the wines! The vineyard has been owned by the same family for over two centuries. So crazy to think about. Our guide was the son of the vineyard owner, and quite witty and entertaining. It didn’t take long for him to join us with the tasting. (And I guess, we are a pretty fun group as well).
Fun fact: The word vineyard comes from the Italian word, la vigna.
We were able to taste four wines, two whites and two reds. This was the FIRST wine tasting that I liked every single wine! With each wine we had a food pairing to go along. Some of the dishes included bruschetta, pecorino cheese (love!!), and tomatoes filled with rice.
Overall, the vineyard tour took a little over two hours. I would definitely recommend doing something more relaxing the first day after traveling. It forces you to stay awake but doesn’t exhaust and push you over the edge.

I highly recommend Casale Marchese if you are in Rome! Wine tours are available daily and well as catered dinners (would be so lovely for a reception or rehearsal dinner).
What is your favorite vineyard you have been to?
