It’s been a minute since the last post. I somehow managed to get the flu for a solid week, and my life involved lots of sleep. But hey, I’m back now.
As you all know, it was my birthday a few weeks back. To celebrate I thought it would be exciting to rent a sailboat for a Saturday evening to watch the Navy Pier fireworks from the water. While browsing, I found a lot of the typical “touristy” boat rentals were outrageous in price and offered little flexibility. Then I stumbled upon BoatBound.
Boatbound is like Airbnb, but for boats. It’s offered in a ton of cities, and has a great selection. Just like Airbnb, I found myself browsing through all the options and dreaming about a $10k yacht a night (there is one, check it out). I knew that I wanted a sailboat, a large one at that, so we could enjoy a smoother journey with more people.
My experience with Boatbound was top-notch (and I think everyone on the boat would agree). The night was picturesque, the weather was cool, and the journey went smoothly minus my iPhone going overboard, but that’s another story for another day. Sorry about the lack of photos, they went down with the phone.
Here’s why Boatbound is perfect for your next adventure on the lake (or any body of water):
- Working with an individual. Our host was SO SO incredible nice. He was ready to work with me from step one and valued my business. I wasn’t just another “date on his calendar.”
- Flexibility. This was key. The original date scheduled was a disaster. It was the worst storm of the summer. He called me and offered to reschedule, no questions asked. This perk alone is worth it.
- Captain Optional. Since none of us were skilled sailors, we hired a captain for the trip. However, it’s not needed. If you can maneuver a boat, you can skip the captain, and save some $$$ while doing so. But if you want to enjoy a night of sipping on champagne, the captain is vital.
- Variety. There’s a perfect boat for you. I can almost guarantee it. They have tons of options and at all price ranges. If there is something you are looking for in particular, add it to the filter, and search your options. You are not limited to a certain type of boat, size of boat, or price of rental.
