First of all, can we talk about the blue sky? I like to think that all my pictures turned out looking like postcards.
As mentioned in the post before this, we made several trips to the Vatican while in Rome. This one was by far my favorite.
About four months before our trip we applied for tickets to the weekly Papal Audience held on Wednesdays. Tickets are not hard to come by; the real challenge is timing your trip with the pope being in Rome. We somehow managed to pick the right week 🙂
The audience starts at 10am. However, some of my family (thanks Dad & Madeline) staked out at the Vatican at 6:30am. With a little help from a family friend, we knew that we wanted a set a seats on a corner in St. Peter’s Square. We also had a tip that the Pope tends to do his rounds before the Papal Audience, so get there early!
Overall, the audience lasted a little over an hour. It is fascinating to hear all the different languages being spoken and hearing all the countries present announced. If you take anything away, be sure to go early (like real early) and eat a big breakfast before 🙂
This experience was hands down the best of the entire trip. I cannot even explain how amazing it was to be so close to Papa Francesco, let alone hear him speak. If you are in Rome, you NEED to get tickets to the Papal Audience. It truly is a once in a lifetime experience, one I can still not believe I experienced!
