Lodging has become an integral part of the Icelandic experience. From an apartment in the city of Reykjavik, to a bubble in the middle of the forest, or a farmhouse on the coast, the options are endless. Gone are the days of the white walled hotel room. In fact, Iceland has taken full advantage of its surroundings and created “out of this world” accommodations. It’s not so much a question of finding the best place to stay in Iceland, but finding one that fits your ideal adventure.
With that, let’s explore some of the locations I am most excited about:
The Buubble
Imagine waking up under the stars and watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky. Sound like a dream? Well this dream can come true at The Buubble hotel. Large enough for two people, the bubble is just that, a bubble. Located in the middle of a forest, this an experience like no other.
ION Adventure
A true Icelandic oasis, read my full review here.
101 Hotel
Located in the center of Reykjavik, the 101 Hotel is the sister to the ION Adventure hotel. If you like the luxury and amenities of a hotel, this is the place for you.
The Black House
If I owned a home in Iceland (maybe some day…) this is EXACTLY what it would look like. Near the Golden Circle and situated on the Borgarnes Bay, it also offers an escape into the lesser known areas of Iceland. I can only imagine watching the sunset along the water during the summer months.
Hotel Budir
Straight out of the game of Clue, I am a little mad that I didn’t stumble upon this hotel while booking our trip. North of Reykjavik, the Snaefellsnes peninsula is one of the top 100 Sustainable Destinations in the world. At Hotel Budir, all rooms have a view. Whether it is a glacier, the sea, the mountains, the black church or the lava field, you can experience all the wonders of Iceland.
Golden Circle Cottage (Where We Stayed)
Just when you think you’re completely lost, you find yourself pulling up to this cottage. I CANNOT say enough good things about the hosts, or this place in general! This cabin is equipped with a massive hot tub, BBQ grill and unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding area. Situated right off the Golden Circle, it’s the perfect place to end the day. Kex Hostel
Sticking to a budget? Going with a group of friends? More than your average hostel, Kex is located in an old biscuit factory and brings a great amount to character through its salvaged decor.
Farmhouse Apartment Reykjavik
An iconic Icelandic farmhouse, this house looks straight off a postcard. I would recommend taking day trips into Reykjavik or the Blue Lagoon and posted up in this Icelandic haven during the evening.
