Nothing like a good ole Hangover 2 reference to start a post. True life: We rented Hangover 2 in Bangkok because so many tour guides were referencing the movie, and we weren’t getting the jokes.
Insert one of the most unreal experiences in Thailand, Sirocco restaurant at the Lebua hotel. The restaurant is the highest open air restaurant in the world. It is situated on the 63rd floor of the 2nd tallest building in Bangkok. Craziest part. there are absolutely no walls and nothing obstructing the view.
We made dinner reservations at 8pm, but we made sure to arrive before the sun had set to get the full experience. Walking out of the elevator and onto a platform situated so high was one of the weirdest feelings in the world. (One of those – “”this would never happen in the US” moments).
As usual, we took a direct route to the bar and ordered drinks (one dirty martini for this girl). And we might have taken a million photos with the view. Sometimes you have to. After a drink or two, we were seated for dinner. TIP: We took a table in the smoking area (which is located along the edge of the building=better views), since it was all open air, we didn’t have any trouble with smoke blowing our way.
We decided to order the Chef’s tasting which came with 6 courses. I’m not going to lie, wasn’t the biggest fan of all the food, but eating with a view like that — totally worth the cost. After dinner, the hotel surprised us with a “Honeymoon” dessert which was incredibly thoughtful, especially since we were not guests. After dinner, we took our time enjoying the view and snapping a few more shots. We may/may have not fallen asleep in the car ride home. *food coma*
My Favorite Casual Luxury: The view. I think I can look at these pictures all day, every day. The setting for this dinner was nothing you could ever experience in the United States. There was only a hedge separating us and the edge of the building with nothing obstructing the view.
(Sorry about the iPhone pictures, bulky cameras were not allowed.)
**If you are a not a guest of the hotel, you can grab a drink at the Sky bar, but I would really recommend making dinner reservations. The bar area fills up with hotels guests, residents and tourists pretty quickly, so it is nice to have a designated area to yourself. ***

I’d say skip the tasting menu and go a la carte if you make a reservation. Definitely worth the experience.
