With so many of you heading to Europe this summer, Can I come?, I’ve decided to highlight my past European travels and create a few “mini-guides.” First up: London. Located on the River Thames, London is Europe’s New York City. Bustling streets, bursting with variety, London has depth. Over 300 languages are spoken in the city. So grab a cold cider, and get ready to explore England’s capital.
Here are 16 Things you MUST do in London:
Tour the Tower of London
Although the Tower has a dark past, it was one of my favorite museums in the city and the crown jewels are worth a ticket themselves.
Spend the evening at a West End Musical
The musical scene is London is only second to New York City — need a fun date night? Be sure to check out what is playing. Hamilton is heading there soon!
Get lost in the British Museum
One of the greatest museums in the world — it is completely FREE to the public. You will find yourself (lost) in here for hours.
Enjoy the views from the London Eye
A sunset view from the London Eye; no better way to take in the city. With plenty of room to move around, spotting popular attractions is super easy and you’ll be impressed by how many you CAN see.
Snap a photo on Abbey Road
Take a stroll across the famous Beatles’ crossing. Strike a few poses. Sometimes you have to be a tourist.
Stop and smell the roses at the Columbia Road Flower Market
Because for some strange reason, flowers are so much bigger, so much prettier, and smell so much better abroad.
Book an Afternoon Tea
Enjoy endless cups of tea and small bites while showcasing your best Mia Thermopolis impersonation (Princess Diaries, anyone?). Tea at the Ritz is hands down one of my favorite travel experiences I’ve had, and it was my first taste (eh, eh) of luxury travel.
Take in some fresh air at the Sky Garden
After a day in the bustling city, find yourself a seat, enjoy a drink and find yourself with the most incredible view of London.
Visit Hogwarts at Platform 9 ¾
The London Train Authority has replicated the iconic platform from the Harry Potter films. The photograph will be worth the trek to the station.
Grab snacks at Borough Market
Truly, gourmet paradise. It is one of the oldest markets in London (over 1,000 years old) and has managed to make quite the name for itself. If you want, Bourough Market has it.
Visit Buckingham Palace
Schedule time in your itinerary to see the changing of the guards — an iconic event. It begins at 11:30am, but arrive early to secure a good view. And smile at Prince Harry for me 🙂
Check out the Street Art in Shoreditch
Creativity overflows from this neighborhood. The artwork changes almost on a daily basis. Even works of Bansky are here.
Order a glass of wine at Gordon’s Wine Bar
Just do it.
Share a plate of Fish & Chips
No trip to London is complete without a trip to a pub and an order of Fish & Chips. I may be guilty of eating this entree for every dinner.
Stroll & shop through Harrod’s
Want to drop 100k in 15 minutes? This is your spot. It’s worth a trip just to see the ridiculously lavish clientele and displays.
Hop on a bike… and see the city!
Snag a “Boris” bike and view the city as a local
